How To Make A Tiramisu Dessert?

Tiramisu is a dessert of Italian origin that has captivated diners around the world since its appearance in the 1950s. Its ingredients are very appetizing, so it is very easy for anyone to try them. And what are those ingredients? Neither more nor less than Mascarpone cheese and a delicious touch of coffee, liquor and cocoa powder.

Of course, the tiramisu dessert can be prepared with other types of cheese (as long as they are fresh and have a creamy consistency) and the base can be both biscuit and sponge cake. What is important in this recipe is black coffee: it must be well concentrated so that it has the right flavor.

The tiramisu dessert, obviously, contains sugar so we should not abuse it. It can be prepared with substitutes such as: stevia or honey, but that’s up to you. On the other hand, we must bear in mind that the chocolate that is added must always be black (preferably with a high percentage of cocoa, so that it is healthier).

Before proceeding with the recipe, we think it is necessary to tell you about the nutritional value of the tiramisu dessert so that you know more or less how many calories you consume in one serving.

A piece of tiramisu, which is a 147 gram serving, usually has an energy content of 490 calories. This represents 25% of the average Recommended Daily Intake (RDI).

It has an important contribution of fat and carbohydrates. Of these 147 g, 31.67 grams correspond to fat and 42.47 grams are carbohydrates. The protein content is around 8.3 grams. So, if you are on a diet, keep these data in mind and consume responsibly.

Ingredients

We are going to prepare a homemade tiramisu for 6 people.  If you have more guests, we invite you to increase the proportions of the ingredients as required. Now, in total you will need:

  • 4 medium eggs (240 g)
  • 1/2 cup of sugar (100 g)
  • 3/4 cup of coffee (180 ml)
  • Cocoa powder (to taste)
  • 4 cups of Mascarpone cheese (400 g)
  • 2 cups grated dark chocolate (200 g)
  • 1 large package of soletillas sponge cakes (200 g)

As we have commented previously, the preparation of the tiramisu dessert is quite easy. You must have some patience, since its preparation will take you about an hour. 

But it is very entertaining to prepare it and you will see that, once it is ready, its flavor will reward you. Follow these steps to prepare a delicious homemade tiramisu:

  • The first thing you should do is prepare the 180 ml of coffee. Prepare it very strong, let it cool and set it aside.
  • Beat 2 egg whites until stiff using a covered or mixer, and reserve.
  • In another large bowl, beat 4 egg yolks with the sugar until it is foamy.
  • Once we have the desired consistency, we begin to add the mascarpone cheese little by little, beating slowly to achieve a uniform consistency.
  • Add the whipped egg whites and this time mix with a spatula making enveloping movements.
  • Place a layer of sponge cakes in a rectangular mold and soak them with coffee.
  • Cover them with a layer of the mascarpone cream and sprinkle with half of the grated chocolate.
  • Then, on top of this, place the biscuits again, pour the coffee to soak them and add the mascarpone cream and the grated chocolate.
  • Now, sprinkle the surface with cocoa powder. Next, take your tiramisu dessert to refrigerate for three hours. Preferably, leave it in the fridge overnight to give the mixture body.

Some suggestions for your tiramisu dessert

You saw how simple it is to prepare this dessert, the only thing you have to have is patience and wait to share it. It is very likely that when you try the tiramisu that you prepared at home, you will not find it similar to the one you buy in the pastry shop. This is because they usually prepare it with cream. This homemade version is more nutritious and possibly more delicious. 

You can accompany your dessert with a delicious cup of coffee, with a good tea or with the infusion of your choice. The little ones can enjoy it with a citrus fruit juice or with water.
